SAGE

The intelligent assistant

SAGE answers the analyst's questions about a file, rephrases an explanation and drafts summary notes. It explains. It never decides.

What the module does

Each line describes a function by what it produces, never by the promise it carries.

  • Answers the analyst's questions about the open file, in natural language.
  • Rephrases a score explanation for the audience it is addressed to.
  • Drafts a summary note or a reasoned opinion from the elements of the file.
  • Assists the risk department in phrasing a rule, translated into a decision table submitted for approval.

Four questions, and what a file can answer

Choose a question. The answer is built from the fictional file and from it alone: it names what it relies on, and states what it cannot know.

  • Two instalments settled late over twelve months
  • Largest client at forty-two per cent of turnover

Medium — information is missing
The answer takes the elements of the file, in order of importance, and stops where the file stops.
Every element cited points back to a data item in the file. None is introduced from outside.
An answer built on a file cannot speak of what is not in it. It says so rather than filling the gap.

What it never does

What a module refuses to do can be checked; what it promises to do well can only be argued. Its limits are therefore written next to its capabilities.

  • SAGE computes no score and changes no policy without explicit human approval.
  • It can access only the data of the open file and of the current institution.
  • Everything SAGE produces is identified as assisted output.
  • No output is sent to an applicant without human review.

What this changes

What having this module changes in the real work of a credit team.

Artificial intelligence here serves understanding, not opacity. SAGE explains NEXCLARA to its users; it replaces neither the analyst nor the credit policy.
