CORE

The decision engine

CORE runs the five-stage decision chain, deterministically and reproducibly. It is the module that turns an application into a substantiated outcome: approve, review or refuse, with its terms.

What the module does

Each line describes a function by what it produces, never by the promise it carries.

  • Applies your knock-out criteria before any computation, and stops the chain naming the reason.
  • Computes the application's features, flagging every missing value rather than filling it in.
  • Combines expert scorecard and learned model using the weighting your risk department has chosen.
  • Applies your policy adjustments — collateral, trading history, sector — tracing each one separately.
  • Determines the outcome and its terms: maximum amount, duration, collateral, level of delegation required.
  • Replays a past decision identically, with the data and the versions of that day.
  • Processes a batch asynchronously, and a candidate policy in simulation mode.

Three fictional companies, three readings

Choose a situation. The factors fall into three categories, and the reading states what prevails, what tempers it and what is missing. No score is shown: what matters here is the structure of the reasoning.

  • More than eight years of trading
  • Stable turnover over three financial years
  • No recorded payment incident
  • Two supporting documents missing

No element in this category for this scenario.

Scenario measures
Stability of the activity82%
Document completeness74%
Payment behaviour88%
High — the elements agree
An orientation emerges, but it is not a decision: the decision remains the institution's, with its own rules and thresholds.
Payment behaviour and the stability of the activity dominate the reading. The other factors qualify them.
Missing documents are named rather than estimated. Absent information never becomes an average value.

What it never does

What a module refuses to do can be checked; what it promises to do well can only be argued. Its limits are therefore written next to its capabilities.

  • CORE never produces a decision without its explanation: both come out of the same computation.
  • A decision is immutable. A reassessment creates a new decision, linked to the previous one.
  • An application whose completeness is insufficient cannot produce an automatic approval: it goes to review.
  • If a source is unavailable, the decision is produced in degraded mode and flagged as such — never interrupted, never invented.

What this changes

What having this module changes in the real work of a credit team.

The same engine serves a three-hundred-thousand-franc microloan and a fifty-million SME facility. What differs between them is configuration, not a software version — and that is what makes the twelfth institution cheaper than the first.
